What are bifold doors?

Bifold doors fold back on themselves as they open, so they need less clear wall space than a sliding door and less swing space than a standard hinged door. This range includes two types: internal bifold doors that fold within or across the doorway, and bifold barn doors that hang from a track in the style of our sliding barn doors.

Internal bifold doors

Our internal bifold doors come in primed shaker, flush and louvred designs, ready for a topcoat in your own colour. The hinges are concealed and pre-installed for a smooth, uninterrupted face. They are 35 mm thick, in heights of 2015 mm and 2315 mm and widths from 710 mm to 920 mm, and suit single or double door openings. You can choose an interior-mounted system that sits within the opening, or a barn-style system mounted on the wall.

Bifold barn doors

Our bifold barn doors pair two panels that fold together as they slide. The solid wood designs are made from solid pine, 40 mm thick, supplied raw so you can paint or stain them, with panel widths from 350 mm to 550 mm and heights of 2120 mm and 2400 mm. The glass designs combine an aluminium frame with clear or reeded glass, a good choice when you want light to pass between rooms.

Should I choose a bifold door or a sliding barn door for a small space?

Choose a bifold door when there isn’t enough clear wall space beside the opening for a full-width sliding panel. A sliding barn door has a simpler action but needs wall space roughly equal to its own width. A bifold door folds into a narrower stack, but the folded panels project into the room, so check furniture placement and the clear opening you need before deciding.

What is the difference between an internal bifold door and a bifold barn door?

An internal bifold door has panels joined by concealed hinges that fold within or across the doorway, like a compact hinged door. A bifold barn door has two panels that fold together as they move along a barn-style track, giving the look of a barn door in less wall space.
